What to Look For When Buying a Bug Zapper in the UK
Not all bug zappers are made equal — and with so many cheap imports flooding the market, it pays to know what you're after before you click "add to basket".
UV lamp strength matters more than you'd think
The whole trick with electric zappers is getting insects to fly into the grid in the first place. A weak bulb means a small attraction radius — plenty of bugs wandering around just outside range. The MosqiShock's 360° lamp is a good example of what to aim for.
Indoors, outdoors, or both?
If your main gripe is the patio on a summer evening, you'll want something rated for outdoor use with at least a degree of weatherproofing. Not many budget models are genuinely safe to leave out in British drizzle.

Our Verdict
For most people in the UK, the MosqiShock is the clear winner. It's effective, well-made, and does exactly what it promises without any chemicals, subscriptions, or recurring costs — and, crucially, it works both indoors and out, so one purchase covers most situations. If you have a larger indoor space to cover or want one unit for the kitchen and the conservatory, the MosquitoZap is an excellent choice. We tested the Flowtron lantern alongside these two for completeness, but it didn't earn a recommendation — older UV-only lantern designs simply aren't as effective at targeting mosquitoes as the newer purpose-built units above.
